Two Wheels, Many Concerns

As it turns out, there are more bikes than clogs in the fair city of Amsterdam. Which is really too bad because, in my opinion, a good pair of clogs is worth its weight in golden bikes. But I'm a little biased. Bikes and I have been in a fight due do a dreadful spill during the winter of '05. I've been able to avoid this particular mode of transportation for years... UNTIL NOW!

The city and I are getting along great, except of course, that the best way to get around in Amsterdam is via bicycle. The saying "it's just like riding a bike," is a comparison for something easy. But from what I know, I don't buy it. More like, "Oh, getting your phD? It's just like riding a bike!"

I just have to think to myself, everyone rides bikes. I can ride a bike. Everyone rides bikes. I can ride a bike. It's flawless, simple logic. So next week, after I've learned a few basic directions, maybe I'll buy a nice stolen bike from a crack head in the red light district and give 'er a whirl. And maybe I'll fall in love with biking. Maybe I'll win the next Tour de France and make a rubber bracelet with something inspirational on it.

Maybe a bike is just what I need.
